Assessing Attainment in the New Curriculum
This year the children in Y1, Y3, Y4, and Y5 have been working towards the new National Curriculum requirements and will be assessed using End of Year Expectations which describes their attainment against the National Curriculum statements. There are far more End of Year Expectation in the New National Curriculum than the old curriculum, and the level of the expectations is higher.
* If by the end of the year your child has achieved most or all of the expectations for their year group, this would indicate they are working at the expected level.
* If they have achieved all the expectations in their year group and begun working on the expectations in the next year group they would be above expected.
* Equally if your child is still working towards the expectations in their year group, at the end of the year, this would indicate they are working below the expected level. There are no numerical values for the new National Curriculum, simply the following statements:
o Below expected
o Expected
o Above expected
In Reception the children are assessed using the terminology of Emerging, Expected or Exceeding for their attainment.
